Spring is early this year. The forsythia is nearly done blooming; in a normal year, this would be the week it would just be showing a few tentative flowers. We've mowed the lawn twice already, and tilled the garden once. I'm anxious to get plants in the ground, but must remind myself that the last frost date for this area is the third week of May, and that I should not be seduced by all the blooms on trees and shrubs everywhere! We are looking forward to a drier summer than last year. We were barely able to get our hay put up in 2011, and the garden was drenched all summer. That, of course, was followed by the most calamitous flood that this area has seen in centuries. 13 inches of rain fell in a 24 hour period. Although we live high on a hill and did not suffer from flooding, the rain was most unwelcome. Hope springs eternal for gardeners, though, and plans are already underway for expansion of our garden and our flock of Dorper ewes.
